Final Post
This semester I have learned to be more conscientious and responsible about the role that I play, both as a layperson and public health profession, in the health of my environment. It is easy to ignore the impact our society has on the health of our environment, and subsequently the impact we have on our own health. If we are not careful to protect our environment from harm, we ultimately end up hurting ourselves. Moreover, our very lives are in jeopardy as a result of the harm which has come to the environment as a consequence of our actions. Therefore, it is imperative that we take the necessary steps to improving our environment, in order to protect ourselves.
Through this class, I have become more encouraged to take personal actions within my life to improve my impact on the environment. For instance, I have been attempting to shop more second-hand, have purchased a non-gasoline lawn mower, and use public transit much more than before this class. It is not that I was completely unaware that such actions are small steps that I can take to help the environment, but the additional understanding and knowledge of my impacts compelled me to take actions.
The importance of public health education was probably the most important aspect of this class that I learned, this is because I was myself impacted by the knowledge gained throughout this class, and changed as a result. This has brought me to the realization that public health education can have a true impact on bring real results on people, and their lives. Therefore, I have grown to appreciate the impact public health education can have on environmental and other public health issues.
Blogging Experience
I enjoyed the small blogging experience, and found it to be very non-invasive. I was not over-burdened with having to schedule team meeting or conduct multiple large projects together. Although there is definitely merit in such practices, it is much less stressful to not have a huge commitment to a team, particularly when it is online, and most of us have extremely busy lives. Nonetheless, I enjoyed my group and my experience. It was great to see other people's reactions to the modules, and what we learned in them.
Thanks!
